I have at various times used the Jesus prayer to replace my daily prayers usually because short prayers can sometimes be easier to pay attention to. Also, saying the same prayers everyday we sometimes get in a rut where we only say them out of rote memory and are not actually praying. I suppose this could lead to a question for the blog, how can we avoid the trap where we only recite prayers audibly without paying attention? As we know, this isn’t really prayer at all.
