“In the fast [in honor] of the Nativity of Christ, let three days a week be observed - that is, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - when a fast from fish and oil is divinely observed. It is the same as the holy fast [in honor] of the holy apostles and [in honor] of the Mother of God. As the Feast of Christ’s Nativity approaches [meaning, in the week before the Feast], we fast every day and do not eat fish or oil, except on Saturday and Sunday - then we eat them…

And again, on the eve of the [feast] of Lights [meaning, Theophany], we also observe a fast from fish and oil and other types of food all that day. On the very day of Theophany, on whatever day [of the week] it happens to fall, we allow everything [meaning, all types of food]…”
